The Aeronautics and Cross Agency Support Division (ACD) fosters NASA’s international engagement in aeronautics research, as well as a wide range of activities in support of the agency’s mission, including the development of new space technologies, educational activities, and communication with the public about NASA’s past and present accomplishments. The division oversees a diverse assortment of cooperative activities, from research aimed at improving the safety and efficiency of global aviation, to complementing U.S. space technology investments with research activities in other countries to help meet NASA goals.   ACD is also the lead division for NASA’s relations with Canada and Europe, and for interactions with international bodies such as the International Astronautical Federation.

ACD oversees all international efforts and provides policy and programmatic support on international matters to NASA’s Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate,the Office of the Chief Technologist, the Office of the Chief Scientist.  ACD also provides international policy guidance and programmatic support to NASA’s Office of Education, which works to attract and retain students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Supporting the international aspects of these directorates entails drafting and negotiating international agreements, preparing briefing materials, presentations, and policy recommendations for senior NASA managers, and providing advice on the implementation of the international aspects of their respective programs.

Future Direction

ACD will continue to provide guidance and support for NASA’s efforts to meet its goals in aeronautics research, space technology development, and furthering STEM education.  The division will develop and enable partnerships around the world to meet those goals.
